The High Peak Trail and the Stone Centre
The High Peak Trail is where the local stone carrying trains
were moved around the country. There are several engine houses
and the remains of the pulling equipment that pulled engines
and stone filled wagons up long and steep hills. Along the trail
is a centre where the local stone is celebrated. You can attempt
to pan for gold or have a go at stone carving. There is a history
of stone mining and a small café to have a warming drink
and a slice of cake!
Matlock
Bath
Matlock Bath is an old fashioned promenade along the River Derwent.
The ‘waters’ have been known to have recuperative
properties and the mineral content has produced many artefacts.
There is a Mining Museum and many restaurants and bars. In summer
it becomes the Sunday Mecca for motorcyclists and most of the
street parking places are taken up with varied motorcycles and
their admirers.

for shrove tide football games originating in the Middle Ages
and involving hundreds of players. There are also many antique
shops, art galleries, cafés and eateries where you can
experience a light bite and a pint or a sophisticated sit down
meal with exquisite wine and several courses.
